UK Regulator Voices Concern Over Akzo-Metlac Merger

Law360, Los Angeles (September 20, 2012, 7:01 PM EDT) -- The U.K.'s antitrust watchdog on Thursday said it has provisionally found that Dutch chemicals giant Akzo Nobel NV's proposed takeover of rival Metlac Holding Srl would result in a “substantial” lessening of competition in the supply of metal packaging coatings. 

The U.K. Competition Commission said in a statement that several third parties have voiced concerns over the potential loss of Metlac as a competitor. Customers consider Metlac's services to be especially price-competitive and believe it “represents a significant competitive constraint to Akzo," the commission said....
