Verizon Claims FCC Reached Too Far With Data-Roaming Rule

Law360, Washington (September 20, 2012, 4:27 PM EDT) -- Verizon Communications Inc. told the D.C. Circuit on Thursday that the Federal Communications Commission is attempting to vastly broaden its regulatory authority by imposing a new data-roaming rule requiring large carriers to enter into arrangements with others, urging the judges to strike the rule.

The data-roaming rule is meant to give smartphone users Internet access in areas not covered by their wireless carrier's network, but Verizon alleges the regulations fall well outside of the FCC's jurisdiction and that the agency is simply trying to extend voice...
