Medicaid Expansion Will Keep Premiums Lower, Report Says

Law360, New York (September 20, 2012, 9:56 PM EDT) -- States that choose not to expand Medicaid under the health care law risk raising the premiums for private insurance for their residents and making businesses more susceptible to employer mandate penalties, according to a recent report by the nation's actuaries.

The American Academy of Actuaries, a nonpartisan group that says it represents 17,000 actuaries nationwide, released the report Sept. 14 and said it hoped states use its finding to help make a decision on Medicaid expansion.
