Associate Salaries Will Continue To Drop, Experts Say

Law360, New York (September 24, 2012, 7:37 PM EDT) -- First-year associates at big law firms could see compensation rates continue to drop as the uncertainty of the economic climate and client demands for value force salaries downward, experts said Monday following a report that average BigLaw associate pay dropped to $145,000 in 2012.

The National Association for Legal Career Professionals released a report Thursday that found the median salary for first-year associates at large law firms has slumped from a high watermark of $160,000 to $145,000, a figure that was last reported in 2007....
