Loss Adjuster Ends Whirlpool's Claims Over Fire Defense

Law360, New York (September 25, 2012, 6:11 PM EDT) -- Whirlpool Corp. on Monday settled claims against loss adjuster Cunningham Lindsay U.S. Inc. that a Cunningham unit falsely promised that a Chinese insurer would defend the company in a suit over a fire allegedly caused by a defective air conditioner.

According to Whirlpool's complaint, filed in Michigan federal court, Cunningham Lindsay had promised Whirlpool that insurance company China Pacific Property Insurance Co. Ltd. would indemnify Whirlpool, but the insurer later refused when the company was hit with a lawsuit over the allegedly defective air conditioner. The...
