Russia Halts Monsanto GM Corn Imports After Rat Study

Law360, Chicago (September 25, 2012, 6:29 PM EDT) -- Russia's consumer watchdog said Monday it is suspending imports and internal trade of Monsanto Inc.'s genetically modified corn known as NK603 in the wake of a French study that linked the corn to health problems in laboratory rats.

Pointing to the French study on Monsanto's Roundup pesticide and Roundup-tolerant GM maize published earlier this month in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, Russia's Rospotrebnadzor said the country was temporarily restricting the corn while it works to obtain more information on the issue.
