Enviros Challenge Approval Of Arch Coal Mine Expansion

Law360, New York (September 26, 2012, 3:52 PM EDT) -- Conservation groups on Tuesday filed an administrative appeal challenging the U.S. Forest Service's August approval of a Arch Coal Inc. mine expansion in a roadless area of Colorado that provides habitat for wildlife including black bears, goshawks, elk and lynx.

The appeal was filed by Earthjustice on behalf of the WildEarth Guardians, High Country Citizens' Alliance Sierra Club, Rocky Mountain Wild and Defenders of Wildlife. The groups claim the West Elk mine expansion would allegedly allow Arch Coal to bulldoze 6.5 miles of road and build...
