Pa. Lawmakers OK Gas, Coal Drilling On State School Land

Law360, Philadelphia (September 26, 2012, 3:04 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania may soon begin leasing state university property for drilling for coal, natural gas and other resources after the state legislature gave final approval Tuesday to a bill intended to generate revenue for Pennsylvania's higher education system.

The bill, expected to be signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett, would also allow drilling for methane and other mineral resources. In addition to its impact on university lands, Senate Bill 367 would also permit the state’s Department of General Services to execute drilling leases on other state...
