McWane Blocked Domestic Competitors, Customer Claims

Law360, Washington (September 26, 2012, 4:21 PM EDT) -- A McWane Inc. customer on Wednesday claimed during the company's Federal Trade Commission trial for alleged price fixing that the pipe fittings manufacturer strong-armed clients into shunning the company's domestic competitors or face losing McWane business relationships.

According to Dennis Sheley, the president and owner of Illinois Meter Inc., McWane executives Rick Tatman and Jerry Jansen warned customers in 2009 and 2010 that they would cut off customers from purchasing their domestically produced ductile iron pipe fittings or participating in rebate programs if the clients considered...
