House Dems Push To Limit Early NRC Facility Renewals

Law360, Washington (September 26, 2012, 5:46 PM EDT) -- Two Massachusetts Democrats proposed a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday that would stop the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from renewing facility operating licenses decades before they're set to expire, citing growing safety concerns.

Reps. John Tierney and Edward J. Markey introduced the Nuclear Reactor Safety First Act, which would preclude the NRC from granting 20-year license renewals more than a decade before the original 40-year deals end.
