Philly Court Boots Accutane Cases From Mass Tort System

Law360, New York (September 26, 2012, 4:40 PM EDT) -- A Philadelphia judge granted a request from Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. to remove litigation over its acne treatment Accutane from a mass tort system on Wednesday, a groundbreaking move that could spur other companies to seek the removal of their cases from the program.

Roche had filed a motion to rescind the litigation's status as a mass tort in Philadelphia's Complex Litigation Center on Sept. 10. The 20 lawsuits in the litigation, which allege Accutane caused plaintiffs' inflammatory bowel disease, will now proceed individually in the city's...
