EU Antitrust Watchdog Raids Lead Recycling Cos.

Law360, New York (October 1, 2012, 7:12 PM EDT) -- The European Commission has raided the offices of several companies that buy scrap materials to recycle into lead based on concerns that the businesses might be running a cartel, the agency said Saturday.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog confirmed that it had conducted unannounced inspections Wednesday of several companies that purchase scrap batteries and other items containing lead scrap for recycling. The inspections were based on the commission's suspicion that the companies might have violated the EU law that bans cartels and other restrictive business practices,...
