Politics Put Brakes On FIO Reinsurance Report, Experts Say

Law360, New York (October 1, 2012, 9:49 PM EDT) -- The Federal Insurance Office missed a Sunday deadline for releasing a sweeping report expected to shake up reinsurance regulation, hoping to avoid alienating state regulators or advocating for tougher rules ahead of the November election, according to experts.

Congress had set a Sept. 30 deadline for the FIO to put together a report scrutinizing the effects of domestic and international regulation on reinsurance in the U.S. and outlining ways to coordinate reinsurance supervision here and abroad.
