Simpson Thacher Ushers Carlyle Into Commodities Trading

Law360, New York (October 3, 2012, 12:51 PM EDT) -- Washington-based private equity firm Carlyle Group LP picked up a majority stake in hedge-fund manager Vermillion Asset Management LLC, Carlyle said Wednesday, landing its first commodities trading platform as it continues its foray into nonbuyout holdings.

Carlyle bought its 55 percent stake in the commodities trader using a mix of cash and stock in itself, it said in a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
