Ampco Sues To Keep 'Hostile' Insurer From Asbestos Claims

Law360, New York (October 3, 2012, 9:03 PM EDT) -- Ampco-Pittsburgh Corp. and a subsidiary launched a suit Wednesday in Pennsylvania to prevent Utica Mutual Insurance Co. from transferring its responsibilities as lead carrier in handling scores of underlying asbestos claims to another insurer the plaintiffs call hostile.

Under a coverage-in-place agreement, Utica has served as lead carrier in the administration of asbestos claims brought against Ampco-Pittsburgh companies and subsidiary Air & Liquids Systems Corp. since mid-2003, handling the defense of tens of thousands of asbestos claims and coordinating settlement and attorneys' fee payments of more...
