Akzo Hits Dow With Suit Over Dispersion Patent

Law360, New York (October 5, 2012, 5:54 PM EDT) -- Dutch paint giant Akzo Nobel NV hit Dow Chemical Co. with a lawsuit in Delaware federal court Thursday, accusing Dow of stealing its patented high-temperature method for creating polymer dispersions.

Amsterdam-based Akzo, the largest paint and coatings company in the world, says Dow ripped off its so-called extrusion process, which describes a way to disperse a “polymer in an aqueous medium” at high temperatures, specifically above 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
