Abbott Faces Antitrust Suit Over HIV Treatments

Law360, New York (October 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Plaintiffs — including Safeway Inc., Walgreen Co. and the Kroger Co. — are claiming in an antitrust suit that Abbott stymied competition in the market for boosted protease inhibitors when it jacked up the price of HIV treatment Norvir by about 400% after competitors started threatening Abbott's dominance.

Safeway, Walgreen, Kroger, New Albertson's Inc. and American Sales Company Inc. lodged their complaint against Abbott on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
