UK Halts Extradition Of Accused British Hacker To US

Law360, New York (October 16, 2012, 3:09 PM EDT) -- The U.K. on Tuesday blocked the extradition of a seriously ill British man reportedly wanted for years by U.S. authorities for hacking into military computers, citing human rights concerns.

In a speech to the country’s House of Commons, Home Secretary Theresa May said that given accused hacker Gary McKinnon’s history of Asperger's syndrome and depressive illness, extraditing him to the U.S. to face punishment for his alleged crimes would likely end with McKinnon committing suicide.
