Charlotte Gets $580M Fed Grant For Light-Rail Expansion

Law360, New York (October 17, 2012, 2:17 PM EDT) -- The city of Charlotte, N.C., got a $580 million boost for its light-rail extension project from the U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday, clearing the last major funding hurdle to beginning construction on the $1.2 billion endeavor.

The Full Funding Grant Agreement, from the DOT's Federal Transit Administration, will cover about 50 percent of the costs for the LYNX Blue Line Extension, which will connect Seventh Street in Uptown Charlotte to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus and Carolinas Medical Center's University Hospital....
