Meningitis Victim's Widow Targets Drug Compounder

Law360, New York (October 17, 2012, 4:15 PM EDT) -- The widow of a patient killed in the meningitis outbreak linked to the New England Compounding Center filed what appears to be the epidemic's first wrongful death lawsuit on Tuesday, the same day federal criminal investigators raided the pharmacy.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has raised the death toll for the outbreak to 19, with 247 confirmed illnesses in 15 states. Authorities have said they expected the case count to continue to rise in the next several weeks.
