Russia Voices 'Deep Concern' Over EU's New Iran Sanctions

Law360, New York (October 17, 2012, 3:58 PM EDT) -- Russia on Wednesday aired its opposition to the European Union's recent imposition of sanctions against Iran intended to discourage the country's nuclear ambitions, expressing “deep concern” over the EU's restrictions on Iran's banking, energy and metals sectors.

In a statement posted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the Russian government criticized the EU's “unilateral” sanctions against Iran, announced Monday, which among other provisions bar all unauthorized transactions between European and Iranian banks.
