USPTO Plans Overhaul Of Attorney Conduct Rules

Law360, New York (October 18, 2012, 7:25 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday unveiled plans to revise its professional conduct rules to align them with the rules in place for attorneys in most U.S. states, a move USPTO Director David Kappos said was overdue.

While 49 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Model Rules of Professional Conduct of the American Bar Association, which were published in 1983 and revised in 2003 and 2011, the USPTO has continued to use rules based on an earlier ABA code from 1980....
