US Beats Chinese Appeal Of WTO Steel Duty Ruling

Law360, New York (October 18, 2012, 2:13 PM EDT) -- A World Trade Organization appeals panel on Thursday sided with a U.S. challenge to Chinese countervailing and anti-dumping duties on specialized American steel used in transformers and other items important for the power generating industry.

The WTO Appellate Body decided to keep in place an earlier ruling by a dispute settlement panel, which found that China fell short of its international trade commitments by initiating duty investigations on U.S. grain oriented flat-rolled electrical steel without having enough evidence to back the probes, the WTO said....
