Carrefour Aims For Growth In $2.6B Colombian Biz Sale

Law360, New York (October 19, 2012, 2:21 PM EDT) -- French retail giant Carrefour SA will sell its Colombian operations to Chilean retailer Cencosud SA in a €2 billion ($2.6 billion) deal aimed at revamping Carrefour's growth strategy, the companies announced Thursday. 

Carrefour, which is streamlining its assets to focus on its key money-making markets, will transfer 92 stores — 72 hypermarket stores, 16 convenience stores, and four cash-and-carry stores and gas stations to Cencosud, which is poised to become Colombia's second-largest supermarket operator due to the Carrefour deal, according to statements issued by both companies....
