GOP Sens. Question E-Records Incentive Program Costs

Law360, New York (October 19, 2012, 4:13 PM EDT) -- U.S. Senate Republicans on Wednesday demanded more information on the U.S. Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services' electronic health records incentive program, citing concerns that it may be encouraging more diagnostic tests, increasing Medicare billing and driving up Medicare costs.

Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., Richard Burr, R-N.C., Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Pat Roberts, R-Kan., asked Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a letter to explain the government's strategy to address "what may be an unintended consequence" of the incentive program.
