Oil, Gas Cos. Should Submit EPA Emission Reports, Enviros Say

Law360, New York (October 24, 2012, 4:17 PM EDT) -- A coalition of 17 environmental groups on Wednesday urged the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to require oil and gas extraction companies to report emissions under the Toxics Release Inventory, arguing such reporting would help protect communities and reduce pollution.

Led by the Environmental Integrity Project, the advocacy groups say that oil and gas extraction activities, including hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, release nearly 130,000 tons of hazardous air pollutants a year, yet the industry is exempt from obligations to report toxic emissions to the EPA-maintained database.
