Lawmakers Release New Drug Track-And-Trace Proposal

Law360, New York (October 24, 2012, 7:33 PM EDT) -- Bipartisan leaders of Congress' U.S. Food and Drug Administration oversight committees on Wednesday released a new draft of legislation that would create a nationwide drug tracking system, which the industry hopes it can pass by the end of the year.

The drug industry — including manufacturers, wholesalers, shippers and pharmacies — has pushed Congress to create uniform, national track-and-trace standards, in part to preempt a stringent California tracking law that the industry says will be prohibitively expensive and technologically impossible to meet.
