Public Hospitals Push For Repeal Of Safety Net Cuts

Law360, New York (October 25, 2012, 10:02 PM EDT) -- Public hospitals are urging Congress to rethink and repeal the Affordable Care Act's cuts to disproportionate-share hospital payments, releasing a report Thursday finding that hospitals will spend more than $50 billion more on uncompensated care by 2019 than was originally calculated when the ACA passed.

The National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, which represents safety-net hospitals to many low-income and uninsured patients, said that the expected expansion in insurance coverage was no longer enough to make up for the billions of dollars in Medicaid...
