SC Reaches Deal With Taxpayers Over Data Breach

Law360, New York (October 30, 2012, 2:27 PM EDT) -- South Carolina officials on Tuesday announced a deal that will give taxpayers free credit fraud resolution for life following a September security breach of the Department of Revenue system that compromised 3.6 million state tax returns and taxpayers’ personal information.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said the state had negotiated a deal with credit monitoring agency Experian Information Solutions Inc. that will provide state taxpayers with daily credit monitoring services for one year through all three major credit bureaus — Experian, Equifax and Transunion.
