Johns Hopkins Says Life Technologies Flouts Gene Test IP

Law360, New York (November 1, 2012, 1:38 PM EDT) -- The Johns Hopkins University hit biotechnology company Life Technologies Corp. with an infringement suit in North Carolina federal court Wednesday, accusing the company of ripping off the school’s patented gene sequencing technology.

Johns Hopkins and exclusive patent licensee Esoterix Genetic Laboratories LLC say Life Technologies and its Applied Biosystems LLC and Ion Torrent Systems Inc. subsidiaries are selling gene sequencing systems and cancer detection products that infringe three of the university’s genetics patents.
