WTO Chief Warns Of Increasing 'Trade Frictions'

Law360, New York (November 2, 2012, 7:59 PM EDT) -- World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy warned Wednesday that while global trade hasn't seen a serious uptick in protective trade measures, "trade frictions" seem to be increasing as economic indicators and employment figures continue to underwhelm.

In a report examining trade developments over the past five months, Lamy said G-20 governments need to "redouble" efforts to keep their markets open, saying international trade was a way to counter slow global economic growth. Trade restrictions, Lamy said, "only aggravate global problems and risk generating tit-for-tat reactions."...
