Pa. Lawmaker Blasts DEP's Handling Of Fracking Water Safety

Law360, Philadelphia (November 2, 2012, 4:41 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania state lawmaker slammed the state’s Department of Environmental Protection Thursday, claiming that the agency has been obscuring data that demonstrates the public health risks of gas drilling in the state’s Marcellus Shale.

Rep. Jesse White, D-Allegheny, produced a letter detailing the deposition of Taru Upadhyay, technical director of the DEP Bureau of Laboratories, in a lawsuit over contaminated drinking water, contending that Upadhyay’s testimony revealed that the state had intentionally limited results when testing water potentially affected by drilling.
