UK Justice Committee Wants Data Protection Reform Reworked

Law360, New York (November 2, 2012, 4:17 PM EDT) -- A U.K. parliamentary committee on Thursday became the latest national authority to bash a proposed overhaul of the European Union’s data protection regime, calling the reforms “too prescriptive” and pushing the European Commission to revamp its proposal.

In its report, the Justice Select Committee of the House of Commons concluded that the processes and procedures specified in a recent proposal to tighten data protections in the EU by replacing the current directive with a uniform regulation did not allow for flexibility to adjust to individual circumstances...
