CPSC Finalizes Safety Standards For Baby Swings

Law360, New York (November 7, 2012, 1:02 PM EST) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has finalized new safety protections for infant swings to prevent potentially fatal injuries to babies and young children, according to a Federal Register notice published Wednesday.

The new mandatory standards were developed by the CPSC in response to incident data on various dangers associated with baby swings that resulted in approximately 600 injuries and 15 infant deaths over the past decade from swings tipping over or collapsing as well as structural failures that pose dangers of entanglement, entrapment and asphyxiation,...
