Argentine Judge Freezes Chevron Assets In $19B Judgment Row
Law360, Chicago (November 7, 2012, 6:15 PM EST) -- Ecuadorean pollution claimants scored a ruling from an Argentinian judge Wednesday embargoing Chevron Corp.'s assets in that country, part of a suit they launched to try to enforce a $19 billion judgment against the company they won last year, their spokeswoman said.
The ruling is the first asset freeze order the claimants have secured outside their home territory of Ecuador, according to Karen Hinton, their spokeswoman. The claimants' lawyers in Argentina have estimated that Chevron has $2 billion of assets in that country in the form of oil operations and bank accounts.
