Mass. Official Fired For Ignoring Compounding Center Concerns

Law360, New York (November 7, 2012, 6:04 PM EST) -- The director of the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy was fired for not acting on a complaint against the New England Compounding Center, the pharmacy implicated in widely distributing contaminated medications that have caused a deadly meningitis outbreak, the state said Wednesday.

Director James Coffey received a complaint about NECC in July from the Colorado pharmacy board, according to a statement from Lauren Smith, interim director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
