EU Expands Chinese Solar Probe To Target Subsidies

Law360, New York (November 8, 2012, 1:56 PM EST) -- The European Union expanded its ongoing trade probe of China’s solar panel industry on Thursday, saying it would investigate whether the country unfairly subsidizes its solar manufacturers.

The announcement means that Europe is now considering imposing both anti-dumping and anti-subsidy, or countervailing, duties on the €21 billion ($26.72 billion) in Chinese solar panels that are shipped to the EU yearly. Regulators said in September they would investigate possible dumping of below-market-price panels into Europe.
