Compound Cos., Asbestos Victim Settle For $3.6M

Law360, New York (November 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A day before a jury verdict was due in an ailing 81-year-old former carpenter's asbestos suit in a San Francisco court, the joint compound makers he sued settled with him for $3.6 million.

The final agreement came on Friday, two weeks after the trial began before Judge Thomas Mellon in the Superior Court of California.

With it, Bondex, Kaiser Gypsum Co. Inc., Hamilton Materials Inc. and Kelly-Moore Paints promised collectively to pay $3.6 million for the role that Martin Lujan's 15 years of exposure to their...
