Brazil Raids Silicate Cos. In Cartel Probe

Law360, New York (November 9, 2012, 4:39 PM EST) -- Brazil's antitrust regulator said Friday that it had raided several silicate producers and distributors suspected of engaging in illegal cartel activity, the third such raid in recent months since the passage of the country's new competition law.

The Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, said it collected evidence from companies suspected of allocating customers and fixing prices in Brazil's silicate market. The raids were conducted early Thursday morning at companies located in five cities across the country, the council said.
