Brazil Aims To Boost Cartel Cases With More Leniency Bids

Law360, New York (November 14, 2012, 7:46 PM EST) -- Brazil's competition agency is expanding the reach of its cartel enforcement efforts and wants to encourage more companies to blow the whistle on price-fixing conspiracies by revising the rules governing its leniency program, top antitrust official Carlos Ragazzo told Law360 in a recent interview.

While the short-staffed transactions team at the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, has been handling a major overhaul of Brazil's merger regime over the past five months, the watchdog's cartel enforcers have also kept busy.
