PUC, PGW Seek Settlement Over Safety In Fatal Gas Explosion

Law360, Philadelphia (November 16, 2012, 2:10 PM EST) -- The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission and Philadelphia Gas Works asked an administrative law judge Thursday to approve a $500,000 settlement in response to a 2011 gas explosion in Philadelphia that caused the death of a 19-year-old employee and injured five other employees.

In addition to the monetary settlement, which equals the maximum penalty allowed for gas pipeline safety violations under Pennsylvania law, the utility also committed to improving its procedures for responding to gas leaks.
