Trafigura To Pay $1.7M In Dutch Toxic Waste Settlement

Law360, New York (November 16, 2012, 5:11 PM EST) -- Dutch prosecutors announced Friday that they have reached a $1.7 million out-of-court settlement in a criminal case accusing oil and metal trading company Trafigura Beheer BV of exporting toxic waste to the Ivory Coast in 2006.

The settlement brings an end to a long-running dispute accusing the company of violating European Union waste export regulations by allowing the dumping of a toxic cocktail of petrochemical waste in the West African port city of Abidjan, allegedly sickening more than 100,000 people.
