Hallmark Wins $31M In Trade Secrets Suit Against PE Firm

Law360, New York (November 19, 2012, 8:18 PM EST) -- A Missouri federal jury on Monday awarded Hallmark Cards Inc. $31.3 million against Monitor Clipper Partners LLC, an investment firm it sued for allegedly using the card seller's trade secrets to guide a 2005 purchase of a Hallmark competitor.

After seven hours of deliberations, the jury awarded Hallmark $21.3 million in actual damages and $10 million in punitive damages.

“We are pleased with the jury's verdict and their recognition of the importance of protecting proprietary business information and intellectual property,” Hallmark general counsel Brian Gardner said...
