NY Bar Reaffirms Rejection Of Nonlawyer Firm Ownership

Law360, New York (November 20, 2012, 4:23 PM EST) -- The New York State Bar Association on Saturday voted to reaffirm its position against nonlawyers holding ownership in law firms, saying it could negatively impact attorneys' independent legal judgment.

The association's House of Delegates approved the measure in a voice vote at a meeting Saturday on the recommendation of a task force that has been studying the issue for nine months. The task force said its research led it to worry about the outside influence of nonattorneys in a law firm.
