GOP Pick For Energy Oversight Panel Puts Focus On Fracking

Law360, New York (November 29, 2012, 7:57 PM EST) -- Republicans on Wednesday tapped a congressman who heads the natural gas caucus and whose district lies at the heart of the Marcellus Shale to lead the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s oversight panel, a move likely to bring added scrutiny to the Obama administration’s attempts to regulate hydraulic fracturing.

Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., will replace Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., as chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, one of the key congressional watchdogs for federal agencies that carry out the nation’s energy policies.
