Engineered Products Prevails In Federal Circuit On Air Filter Patents

Law360 (September 1, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit ruled Wednesday against Donaldson Company Inc. in a patent dispute over air filter technology, but reduced damages to rival Engineered Products to $11.5 million.

The patents, for air filter restriction indicating devices, cover a method of detecting the level of contamination in an air filter of an internal combustion engine. Iowa-based Engineered Products contended that Donaldson willfully infringed Engineered Products' patent and, as a result, thwarted Engineered Products’ bid to supply the filters to a major SUV and light truck platform.
