Ex-Pa. Sen. Mellow Gets 16 Months In Corruption Case

Law360, Philadelphia (November 30, 2012, 7:19 PM EST) -- A federal judge sentenced former Pennsylvania state Sen. Robert Mellow to 16 months in prison Friday on corruption charges after being accused of filing false tax returns and using his taxpayer-funded staff to conduct campaign fundraising and other political work.

U.S. District Court Judge Joel Slomsky sentenced Mellow during a hearing in Scranton, Pa., on Friday, six months after Mellow, a Democratic Party leader who retired from the state senate in 2010 after a 40-year career there, pled guilty to a conspiracy charge in May....
