BP Sues Contractors Over Steel Used In Refinery Revamp

Law360, Chicago (December 3, 2012, 3:51 PM EST) -- BP Products North America Inc. sued a handful of contractors in Indiana federal court on Monday alleging the steel they provided and fireproofed for the energy giant's multibillion-dollar modernization project at its refinery in Whiting, Ind., has a coating that is degrading prematurely and causing property damage.

The suit targets Trinity Steel Fabricators Inc. and Schuff Steel Co., which both contracted to provide the structural steel coated with the light-weight fireproofing material known as Pyrocrete 241, as well as Alfred Miller Contracting Co. and Tecon Services...
