Utah Claims BP Double-Dipped Into State Insurance Fund

Law360, New York (December 4, 2012, 9:30 PM EST) -- Utah's attorney general on Tuesday filed a civil suit against BP PLC alleging the oil giant illegally claimed $1.5 million from Utah's state insurance policy for cleanup costs at BP gas stations despite already having its own environmental pollution insurance.

Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's suit, filed in the Third Judicial District court in Salt Lake City on behalf of the state's Department of Environmental Quality, alleges BP was reimbursed by the state's Petroleum Storage Tank Fund for cleanup costs between 1995 and 2007 even though...
