EU Slaps Philips, LG, Others With $1.9B Fine For CRT Cartel

Law360, New York (December 5, 2012, 12:22 PM EST) -- European antitrust regulators on Wednesday hit Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV, Samsung SDI Co. Ltd., LG Electronics and others with a combined €1.47 billion ($1.92 billion) in fines for operating two decade-long cartels for televisions and computer monitor tubes.

The European Commission said Philips, Samsung and LG participated in both conspiracies and were joined in the television cartel by Panasonic Corp., Toshiba Corp., MTPD — now a Panasonic subsidiary — and Technicolor SA. Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. blew the whistle on the scheme, winning immunity from prosecution....
